For many women, ambition still comes with extra questions, doubts, or expectations. Subtle comments that minimize achievements. Assumptions about how motherhood and leadership should coexist. The idea that success might be luck rather than intention. But building something meaningful takes vision, resilience, and belief in your own ideas.
International Women’s Day is a reminder that women don’t need to shrink themselves to fit expectations. You’re allowed to take up space, pursue your ambition, and own your success.
At O My Bag, empowering women isn’t something we only talk about on International Women’s Day. It’s part of how we run our business every day.
We are a women-led brand based in Amsterdam, producing our bags sustainably in Kolkata, India. Through ethical production and fair partnerships, we aim to create opportunities and support communities while building a brand that stands for positive change.
Since 2021, we’ve also partnered with the Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre (KMWSC) on a professional skills training program for vulnerable women and girls. Many of the participants have had to leave school early or face difficult circumstances. Through full-time courses in computer skills, tailoring and fashion design, baking, and beautician training, they gain practical skills that help them build confidence and financial independence.
Because when women are given the tools to shape their own future, the impact reaches far beyond one person.
