Protecting
Whether you live in Amsterdam, in Tokyo, or somewhere in between, you are bound to experience rain at some point throughout the year. So, can you wear leather outside? The answer is yes, but first and foremost, you should apply a water-resistant spray to your leather garment. We advise protecting your O My Bag with a water protectant spray every 2-4 weeks. We have good experiences with Collonil 1909 Supreme Protect Spray and Collonil 1909 Supreme Wax Spray.
- The Supreme Protect spray is mainly a water protectant spray. It acts as a light sealing agent, keeping your bag clean and dry from the elements.
- The Supreme Wax spray on the other hand is a good 2-in-1 product for busy bees that would like to protect and moisturize their bag in one go. Next to protecting your canvas, suede and leather products, it also moisturizes all your favorite items.
- Collonil Organic Protect and Care is an alternative with an environmentally friendly sprayer which is easier on the environment and smells delicious! Despite high demands placed on environmental compatibility, its effectiveness doesn’t fall short. For all three sprays, we advise you to apply every three weeks for light-colored products, and every four weeks for medium-to-dark colors.
Leather is unique in the sense that it’s strong, durable, but still a living and natural material. Always keep in mind that even if you are protecting your bag regularly with a protectant spray, leather can never be entirely waterproof. Therefore, it is best to avoid heavy rainfall. If you, however, end up in an unexpected rain shower, it is common that small bubbles will appear on your leather item. No worries – those will fade naturally over time.

More tips and tricks
Never use heat to dry your O My Bag. This direct heat will dry out the leather even more. Just let it dry naturally and away from radiators. And last but not least, when not in use, store your bag away from moisture and variations of heat or cold. Our original dust bags, made from organic cotton, are perfect for this.
