CURIOUS ABOUT WHY WE'RE SO EXCITED TO BE NOMINATED?
We’re honored to be nominated in the Shopping Awards so we can show that making a positive impact can go hand in hand with being a successful fashion company. We create fair jobs in Kolkata, India, while also being featured in Vogue and Harper's Bazaar. We have over 60 thousand followers on Instagram and are sold from Tokyo to LA, but we simultaneously take full responsibility for our impact, both in terms of working conditions in our supply chain and our impact on the climate. We believe that winning this award will inspire other companies to seek ways to make a positive contribution, without compromising on commerce.
Sustainability is ingrained in the DNA of O My Bag. Our company was founded in 2011 with a mission to make a positive difference, based on the principle of trade, not aid. The founder and CEO, Paulien, saw an opportunity in the market for fashionable bags that were also good for the world. Over the years, our sustainability strategy has evolved based on three principles: ethically made, sustainable materials, and creating awareness. We believe that as a company, you can truly influence how your products are made. And by that, we don't just mean the working conditions in the supply chain, but also product quality and ensuring long-term use, such as offering a lifetime warranty and free repair service.

Sustainability at O My Bag is constantly evolving. Our focus is on the people who make our bags in Kolkata. We offer them an annual living wage premium, we listen to their direct feedback about their job through an annual digital survey, and they receive training on various topics each year. We also aim to scale up our living wage program with other brands that purchase from our factories in India by raising awareness on the importance of living wages.
Something that we see as a positive development for sustainability is the growing popularity of second-hand products. We offer clients our Second Chances program for years now, where we resale our bags in our own stores and online. The Program is becoming more popular every year, and since our bags will last a lifetime they are the perfect candidate for the program.
Lastly, it's a remarkable development that we have had a vegan collection for a few years now, catering to customers who prefer not to wear animal products. This allows us to be inclusive and innovative, as developments in that area are happening rapidly, and we want to be part of that. At the same time, we continue to stand behind the sustainability of genuine leather 100%, as it is a material that is unmatched in its longevity.
Fingers crossed!
Love,
O My Bag x
