Together we have removed 7560 kg of plastic from the Ganges River
How did we do this?
During the sale, we kept track of all incoming orders. At the same time, Plastic Fischer placed two Trashbooms in the Ganges river, at two different locations. A Trashboom is a floating barrier that effectively stops plastic waste in rivers from reaching the ocean. For every order placed during our sale, Plastic Fischer immediately removed 5 kilos of plastic from the river. Then, using the Sumthing platform, Plastic Fischer provided insight in which plastic was removed with which order, and where. This information is now available. Every customer that placed an order, can find proof of the exact plastic related to their order by searching for their order number in the widget below. We are proud that together with our customers, Plastic Fischer and Sumthing we have removed a total of 7560 kg of plastic from the Ganges River!
All recyclable plastics have been sold to local recycling companies. The non-recyclables were sent to incineration for energy recovery, which is in line with international best practices. Plastic Fisher prefers to use the plastic as an energy source rather than sending it to unmanaged landfills, where it might end up in the environment again.

About Plastic Fischer
Plastic Fischer has developed the TrashBoom and they have deployed it in the Ganges River in India, one of the most polluted rivers in the world. The plastic is removed and sorted by local staff, so Plastic Fisher creates full-time jobs and stimulates the local economy. They also collaborate with partners to educate communities about recycling, encourage pre-sorting of household waste, and promote alternatives to single-use plastic.
