Care Guide

One of the most responsible things we can do for our planet is to only make high-quality products that can be worn and used for years. That is why we help our customers to take good care of their purchase. With a little love and care your bag will last for years.

PROTECT & MOISTURIZE

We recommend you treat your leather O My Bag with a weather-proofing spray every 2-4 weeks, more often for light-colored products and less for medium-dark tones. This helps to repel moisture and give your bag a longer life. We also advise you to moisturize your leather O My Bag every 3 months. Moisturizing will help to reduce scratches and ensure the leather will not dry out over time. More information on how to care for your O My Bag can be found in our Care Guide.

Please note that some creams and sprays might cause adverse reactions in our leathers, which we are not able to fix.
Due to that, we recommend using our Collonil products, and following the specific instructions per leather type seen below.

Oopsie! Be careful with hand sanitizers! Hand sanitizers contain alcohol, which may remove the color and causes damage to the finish on your lovely leather bag or accessory.

Moisture

Leather is a living and natural material. Therefore, it is best to avoid humidity or rain. Small bubbles created by moisture will fade naturally.

Heat

Do not use heat to dry your O My Bag. Just let it dry naturally and away from radiators. Direct heat will dry out the leather.

Care

When using other leather treatments, always test the product in an inconspicuous area of your bag first, before applying to the entire bag.

Storage

When not in use, store your bag in its original dust bag away from moisture and variations of heat or cold.

Leather Care

Hunter leather

This sturdy leather has a vintage look and feel. Irregularity in color and texture are part of the charm, and scratches can sometimes occur due to the natural finish. The best way to treat Hunter Leather is with the Collonil Nubuk and Textile, due to it’s moisturizing properties and gentle application. We also recommend treating Hunter Leather before use, and then every couple of months withThe Collonil 1909 Supreme Wax Spray for overall protection and hydration. Please note that we can only sell our aerosol sprays to customers within the EU.

classic and woven leather

Classic and Woven Leather will deepen in color over time due to exposure from the elements. Some light markings may occur especially around an area that is being touched frequently (for example, around the flap or around the hardware), but a few sprays of the Collonil Bamboo Lotion or the Collonil Organic Cream on a cloth will work like magic on our Classic and Woven Leather. In addition to the lotion, we recommend The Collonil 1909 Supreme Wax Spray for overall protection every 6-8 weeks, especially if your bag is regularly exposed to heavy rain or extreme sunlight. Please note that we can only sell our aerosol sprays to customers within the EU.

STROMBOLI LEATHER

Just like our Classic Leather, Stromboli Leather will deepen in color, and soften over time. We recommend using the The Collonil 1909 Supreme Wax Spray before your first wear, and then regularly every 6 – 8 weeks for protection against sun and rain exposure. A few drops of Collonil Bamboo Lotion on a cloth will also hydrate and remove any blemishes on the exterior surface. Please note that we can only sell our aerosol sprays to customers within the EU.

Soft Grain Leather

Soft to touch but equally durable, our Soft Grain Leather is easy to care for. We recommend the Collonil 1909 Supreme Wax Spray before wear and every 6 – 8 weeks, for overall protection and hydration. Collonil Nubuk and Textile is also great for deep cleaning, and won’t change the look of any Soft Grain Leather colors. With Green Soft Grain Leather, you can also use Collonil Bamboo Lotion (Do not use on Black or Wild Oak). Please note that we can only sell our aerosol sprays to customers within the EU.

CANVAS

Our O My Bag Canvas is made from 100% GOTS organic cotton, finished with a light wax layer for extra durability. We recommend the The Collonil 1909 Supreme Protect Spray to protect against water, dirt and other elements. We recommend applying this spray frequently for best results. For Olive Canvas, apply every 3 weeks, and for Burgundy, Navy or Black Canvas apply every 4 weeks. Keep your canvas out of direct sunlight to prevent premature fading. For marks and stains, use a damp cloth and rub gently. We do not recommend machine wash as this will damage any leather components of the bag, and the metal fittings. Please note that we can only sell our aerosol sprays to customers within the EU.

Apple Leather

Our O My Bag Apple leather consists of up to 40% residual apple waste from skins, stems, and fibres of the fruit, that is backed by a mix of synthetic materials, required for strength and durability.

Due to the material composition of our apple leather, it does not need to be treated with a leather protector or moisturiser.

Stains

Pen Marks

Pen marks are unfortunately one of the toughest stains to get off leather. If you’ve accidentally marked your bag with a pen, the best you can do is act quickly to remove the stain. Use a leather lotion and rub the mark immediately, but please be aware there is always the risk that you will spread the ink, especially if it’s a new bag and not very worn. The other thing you can try is using a pen eraser (usually the blue part of an eraser) to scratch off the leather slightly which may remove the mark.

Water

Did your water bottle leak in your bag and leave a mean water stain? We recommend using the Collonil Bamboo Lotion on water marks. Using a cloth, apply a small pea-sized amount of the gel to the affected area and rub slowly in circular motion. Try to spread it evenly across that area of the bag, and then let it dry naturally.

Olive Oil

The key to removing olive oil spots is to do it as soon as the stain is made. Using a mix of olive oil and water, spread the mixture evenly over the whole bag or leather item. The oil in the mixture will blend the edges of the stain outwards and the water will help to dilute the mark. Please note this does darken the leather slightly, but reduces the prominence of the stain. Be careful not to put too much, and start with a small amount, gradually applying more where needed. And remember that as time goes on, the leather will evolve and likely darken, meaning the stain will eventually blend.

Color Rub-off

If your light-colored bag gets darker on spots that have rubbed on your clothing we suggest cleaning these areas with Collonil Bamboo Lotion. Use a cloth to apply a small pea-sized amount of the gel to the affected area and rub slowly in circular motion. Spread it evenly across that area of the bag, and then leave it to air dry. Afterwards apply the correct leather lotion for moisturizing (see our ‘Care Products‘ page for instructions).

STAINS ON SUÈDE

If the stain is dry, grab a pencil eraser. Work the eraser over the stain, making small circular motions and applying light pressure. Brush the suède to restore the fibres (nap) once the stain is gone. Stain still there? Head to the pantry for some white vinegar. Pour a little bit onto a clean, dry cloth, and rub the vinegar into the stained suède. Let the suède air dry, and then brush the spot to remove any lingering marks.
