O My Bag is a company of women; we mainly design for women, we work with women in India and at the office you can find 8 women and one man. Today we’re celebrating women in business by shining the spotlight on 3 special ladies in our lives; Marieke Eyskoot, Swapna Das and Ipshita Wadhwa.

On this post we talk a bit about the day we visited the Brickfield Schools, a social project that we support in India, that provides school lessons to children of migrant workers on the Brickfields (steenfabrieken). Keep reading to see how they liked our gifts!

As a brand we find it important to give back and support local projects in the area which we operate. Thanks to our growth, this was the first time we were able to make such a big donation of 3000 backpacks! We know that giving in developing countries can be a controversial subject and we are happy to generally support a trade vs. aid philosophy. However, after visiting the project and carefully assessing the partnership, we decided to do it.

Late 2016 my mother was unexpectedly diagnosed with an advanced form of kidney cancer. The prognosis was bad and the diagnosis sudden. My mother was only 61, she had an active lifestyle and was passionately working at her own pharmacy, as she had been for the past 31 years. She was the heart of our family of 4 children, her illness was devastating for us....

Tea time! We love Chai. You know, that spicy and fragrant milky tea drunk across most of India and much of east Africa? Everybody at The Loyal Workshop (they make our beautiful luggage tags) knows that Kakali’s Chai is the best!

Many terrible incidents have occurred in the fashion industry in recent years. One of these incidents was the collapse of the Rana Plaza Building in Dhaka, Bangladesh. On 24 April 2013 an eight-story garment factory collapsed in the capital of Bangladesh. The incident killed 1,133 people and over 2,500 people were injured.
